Lord Kim Darroch of Kew and his wife, Lady Vanessa, were welcomed to the North West region by members of the NWBLT. Lord Darroch spoke about international affairs at a dinner at the Hope Street Hotel in Liverpool and took questions from the businesses leaders in attendance. His prior experience with Ukraine, when he was National Security Advisor, gave him some fascinating insights on the current situation.

Lord Darroch is a retired UK civil servant and life peer who served as the British Ambassador to the United States, was National Security Adviser to Prime Minister David Cameron and oversaw issues such as the rise of Daesh in Iraq and Syria, Russian aggression in Ukraine, and the collapse of government authority in Libya. In addition, he worked in senior roles on UK-EU policy and multilateral negotiations, including spells as Permanent Representative to the European Union and as EU Adviser to Prime Minister Tony Blair. In 2020, Lord Darroch wrote Collateral Damage: Britain, America and Europe in the Age of Trump and in 2021 became Chairperson of non-partisan, internationalist campaign group, Best for Britain.
