NWBLT has been actively lobbying for a new High Speed Rail Link between the North West and London for several years to help meet the region’s anticipated future need for increased capacity on its links with London and Channel Tunnel. High Speed Rail networks are already well established across much of Europe and rapidly expanding.
In a recent letter to Transport Secretary, Lord Adonis, NWBLT has asked for assurance that future plans for the UK’s second High Speed Line will link London with Manchester, Liverpool and other North West destinations and that the time-table for building the new line will be brought forward.
A report published in 2009 by Network Rail envisages a High Speed Link between the North West and London, serving Manchester, Liverpool, Warrington and Preston.
