The organiser of the Business of Science Conference is calling for the UK’s science-related industries to nominate outstanding business leaders for this year’s Business of Science Leadership Awards.
Sponsored by global personal healthcare manufacturer, PZ Cussons, the awards are now in their second year. The recipients of the 2017 awards were Professor Adrian Hayday FRS of the Francis Crick Institute and Juergen Maier (pictured left), CEO of Siemens UK and Chair of NWBLT. Dame Nancy Rothwell was also presented with a special recogition award for outstanding commitments to the science industry.
The call for entries is open to ambitious leaders of science-based organisations of all sizes from across the UK who can demonstrate active engagement with the wider business community and an ongoing commitment to the promotion of science and innovation at the highest level.
Entries to the awards may be made by individuals directly or via nomination until 5pm on Friday 6th April 2018.
A judging panel of seven industry figures including Richard Carter, MD, BASF UK, Professor Gail Cardew of The Royal Institution, John Weir, PZ Cussons, Claire-Marie Boggiano of Lurig Change and Development, Steve Elliott, CIA, Richard Jones, Mereo BioPharma and Business of Science founder, Steve Bennett, will meet at the Royal Institution in London on the 30th April at 3pm to review the entries.
The winners will be revealed at the Business of Science pre-conference dinner in Liverpool on Wednesday May 16th.
Steve Bennett, Business of Science North and organiser of the awards, said: “In the inaugral Business of Science survey report that we’re about to publish, respondents highlighted that good leadership in science and innovation requires a blend of both technical and commercial skills. The Leadership Awards are designed to shine a light on those individuals who consistently demonstrate that they have these talents in abundance.
“Within the context of the reported global leadership crisis, there’s never been a more fitting time to seek out and celebrate examples of inspirational leadership and its impact on the business of science.”
NWBLT are sponsoring the 2018 Business of Science Conference and are delighted that new sponsors have just confirmed including chemicals company, William Blythe and the Cheshire Science Corridor.
